September 2025 review and October goals

This website has only been live on the WordPress platform for just over a week. I’ve worked very hard during this time to build it up completely from scratch, and I’m proud of where I’ve brought it to so far. I have lots of development ideas for the future, and quite a lot of blog content I wish to write about. So far, I’m really enjoying the website development process!

I guess the intention of this post is to allow me to voice my own opinions (and perhaps frustrations(?)) during the development of the blog. I’d like to grow an audience who consistently come back here to read what I have to say. I want to share the knowledge and passion that I’ve built up over the years for personal finance and sustainability with a wider audience. It pretty much feels like I can’t stay silent about these things any more!

It’s not going to be easy though. My intention is to post several high-quality blog posts per week, but it does take a lot of time making sure the blogs are decent enough to read while also having some search engine optimisation (SEO), so I can draw people in. So, a lot of work.

I’ve wanted to develop some sort of climate change/ sustainability/ intentional living/ personal finance website for a long time now. Well, here it goes… I probably won’t be explicitly talking about climate change that much here, but the underlying foundation of the website will always be to promote a lifestyle which is more sustainable for the Earth and for your wallet. If I can get this message through to as many people as possible, then I’ll be a happy man. I really just want people to be living their best life, one where they are actually happy and not constantly distracted by the fast-paced and ever-changing wants of life.

If you didn’t know, I already had the predecessor of this website live since February 2025 using a Wix platform. The problem was… there was very little interest in it. This was a combination of me not spending much time developing it and writing new content. I was not that active on social media either. So I shouldn’t really be surprised by the lack of interest. This time around… it feels different. I discovered the completely inspirational website Making Sense of Cents in early September, and it completely changed my outlook on how to run a blog.

Firstly, I realised that I needed to host the website myself if I had any hope of future monetisation, and also wanted to more easily promote the website through SEO (which can be enhanced through WordPress plugins). This initiated a complete re-build using WordPress. (The website is now hosted by Bluehost, by the way.) Secondly, I’ve come to understand the importance of SEO in each post that I write; this is something that I wasn’t even aware of before. Thirdly, I now realise how useful social media is in promoting content creation (in my case that’s Pinterest and X). I intend to be active on both platforms. And finally, I’ve come to terms with the simple fact that it’s hard. Writing a blog to attract a regular audience is very difficult in the beginning – and it’s disheartening to find that nobody is reading what you have to say. I’ve accepted that it could be a long time before there is any interest in this website, but I will do my best to provide high quality content either way.

September Goals Review

I made myself goals for the month of September part-way through the month, and I think I’ll continue to make monthly goals at the start of each month from now on. I hope this will keep me motivated and working hard.

September 2025 goals:

  • 15 X followers. Completed.
  • 3 blogs per week. I haven’t really been writing for long enough on WordPress to tick this off. I will aim for 4 blogs per week on average.
  • Social Media interaction every day. Fail. I’ve been active most days but not all.
  • Get new website live using WordPress. Completed. I’m very happy with how the site currently looks, even if using the WordPress editor is less intuitive than what I’ve been used to.
  • Aim to get blog posts to around 1000 words or more, and make sure they are high quality. Completed. All of my posts so far have been around or above 1000 words. This is an arbitrary threshold that I have set myself, to ensure that I deliver enough relevant and high-quality content in each blog.

October Goals

  • 25 X followers (may be a bit ambitious, let’s see).
  • Consistently put out 3 high quality blogs per week.
  • Start getting followers on Pinterest.
  • Have an average of 10 unique visitors per day.
