How to be a Badass at Life

I was reading a Mr Money Mustache blog the other day and was so inspired by the content that I decided to incorporate the information directly into my own life (as well as to write this blog).

In Lessons From the Badass Muscular Neurobiologist, MMM reflects on lessons he’s learnt after listening to 70 hours of podcasts from Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist at Stanford University. You should, of course, go back and read the whole article (and listen to Andrew Huberman’s podcasts – which are incredibly informative, and which you can use as the foundation to build your life of science-based living).

One thing in particular stuck out to me. The Monthly Good Habits Tracker (also known as the Badassity Tracker) which MMM diligently created and shared with us all on Google Sheets. Edit the tracker as you like, and then colour in or tick off each habit as you hit it. Stick it up on your fridge and it’ll be in your face every time you’re hungry. You can’t miss it – and it’ll remind you to continue the good habits that make you a Badass at Life. Forget to get your workout in so far today? It’ll be plainly obvious for all to see – so you better get a quick one in before the end of the day.

Here’s my version, with a few modifications from MMM’s original:

A gridded table to mark completed activities.

If anything is non-negotiable, it’s the weight/cardio habit. I try and hit this 6 days per week (with one intentional rest day). The evening habits – like having devices off after 20:15, are difficult to hit, but give the greatest reward in opening up an entire evening for self development.

The Badassity Tracker provides easy accountability and motivation to get ’em all. And that is indeed what I shall be doing over the coming months and years, as I’ve already stuck the first month’s tracker up on my fridge. It’s a constant reminder to be the best version of myself, every day. And that, if anything, is the message Slow Down and Save is trying to promote.
